Mediation begins on Monday! Mayor Steinberg has scheduled sessions with the ASE and university bargaining teams. To see the memo that the ASE bargaining team has prepared for Mayor Steinberg, please check the previous bargaining update email.
Pursuant to the preference of the mayor, the mediation session will be restricted to a portion of ASEs. However, we’re taking the following steps to ensure this process remains as open as possible:
- We will hold caucus meetings before and after the mediation session to discuss strategy and the next steps in the bargaining process:
- Pre-caucus: Monday, May 8, 8:30-9:30 a.m.
- Post-caucus: Monday, May 8, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
- The caucus meetings will be held on Zoom. (Link redacted from website; please check your email for a link.)
- The bargaining team will continue to provide prompt updates about the state of mediation.
- The bargaining team is currently working to engage ASEs about strategy for the mediation session. If you are interested in learning more/helping determine bargaining strategy, feel free to reply to this email.
- Any final agreement will be subject to a ratification vote of ASEs in the departments.
In other good news, California Assemblymember Buffy Wicks has sent a letter to UC President Michael Drake, Chancellor Carol Christ, and EVCP Ben Hermalin urging them to come to a fair deal on staffing. This follows similar letters sent by State Senator Nancy Skinner and Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguín.
