Join EECS/DS ASEs in San Francisco on July 19

As you may have heard, UCPD recently arrested 3 student-workers in San Diego for engaging in first amendment-protected protest about contract enforcement – chalking and using washable markers on the side of a building. You can read the KPBS article here

Student-workers from all Northern California campuses will be rallying at the meeting of the UC Regents on July 19 to demand that the university drop the charges. A group from EECS/DS will be gathering at the Downtown Berkeley BART station at 6:30 a.m. on July 19 to head down to the rally. Can you join us and RSVP here

RSVP FOR THE RALLY HERE

I am going to the rally because our ability to negotiate and enforce agreements with the university is dependent on our ability to speak, protest, and act together as ASEs – which these actions from UC threaten. The strike, work-in, and protests staged by undergraduate ASEs in EECS and Data Science in the spring were essential to negotiating a local agreement. If the university can simply arrest whoever questions their authority – even actions as small as chalking a building – we have no contract.
